1. Saying “no”
How many times have you done something simply because you felt obligated?
Or you didn’t want to hurt someone’s feelings?
Let the power of “no” liberate you.
A full-hearted “no” will always be better than a half hearted “yes”.
2. Other people’s opinions
Opinion’s are like assholes, everyone’s got one, and they’re all full of shit.
But really.
Other people don’t know your life, and it’s not their responsibility to.
Stop taking what they say or think so personally.
It will never get you anywhere.
3. How “silly” you looked
It’s a tragedy how many dreams go unfulfilled simply because people are scared of looking silly.
• Start that YouTube channel
• Build that home business
• Put yourself out there
Those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.
4. How many likes you got
This is one I’m working on myself.
When your identity gets tied up in social media it can be easy to let your self-worth get tangled up in it too.
It’s a slippery slope.
Use metrics how you will, but always keep the bigger picture in mind.
5. Material possessions
Look around your room.
Odds are that there are only a handful of items you’ll still be using in 10 years.
The hedonic treadmill will also ensure that these things never bring you lasting fulfillment.
Let go of attachment to material things.
6. Your age
If you’re 25 now,
no matter what, in 10 years you will be 35.
You have the choice to be:
35 year old who:
- built their own business
- learnt an instrument
- got a degree
OR
35 year old who:
- thought it was too late to start
7. Instant gratification
Things you will never say 10 years from now:
"I'm glad I watched that extra episode of Netflix"
"I wish I had spent more time looking at my phone"
"I owe my good health to my weekly Big Macs"
Start caring about "Future You".
Not just "Right Now You".
