Chandra, the moon-god, disobeyed his father-in-law, Daksha Prajapati. Daksha had given him 27 wives and told him that he should love all wives equally. Chandra, however, preferred only one of them. An angry Daksha, therefore cursed Chandra, that he would suffer from the wasting disease. Each day, his luster would wane and eventually he would disappear forever. As a result, the moon started to wane. A terrified Chandra did not know what to do. Being a Deva, a sky-god, he turned to his king, Indra, and begged him for help. “The only person you can turn to is Shiva,” said Indra, “because he is not a Deva. He is a Maha-Deva, greater than all gods put together.” Chandra went to Shiva but Shiva was a silent god, with eyes shut, deep in meditation. Chandra sat before him, trembling, afraid, desperate for help. Shiva opened his eyes, looked at the miserable moon-god. A king wanted the perfect groom for his daughter. So he travelled to the abode of the gods to find out who was the perfect man ever created. When he returned with the information, the world had changed dramatically: a hundred years had passed, his daughter and his entire family had died and no one remembered him. He was told that time flows faster in the realm of the gods, what is a day there is a hundred years on earth. In another story, the gods asked a hermit to fetch them a pot of water. As the hermit dipped the pot in the water, he saw a beautiful girl and fell in love with her and asked her to marry him. She agreed then and there and so the hermit became a householder and had children by the woman, and the children had children of their own. In his old age, there was suddenly a great flood. “ओम जय जगदीश हरे” भजन भला किसने गाया या सुना न होगा। यह हिन्दुओं का सर्वाधिक लोकप्रिय भजन है जिसे प्रायः मन्दिरों तथा घरों में भगवान की आरती उतारते समय गाया जाता है। “ओम जय जगदीश हरे” भजन लोगों के लिए एक प्रकार से सामान्य जीवन का अंग सा बन गया है किन्तु बहुत कम लोग जानते होंगे कि इस भजन को किसने और कब लिखा। ओम जय जगदीश हरे के रचयिता हैं श्रद्धा राम फिल्लौरी जिनका जन्म जालंधर (पंजाब) के एक गाँव फिल्लौर में 30 सितम्बर 1837 को हुआ था। श्रद्धा राम जी ने सन् 1844 में अर्थात् मात्र सात वर्ष की उम्र में ही गुरुमुखी भाषा सीख लिया था। बाद में उन्होंने हिन्दी, संस्कृत और पारसी भाषाओं तथा ज्योतिष शास्त्र का भी अध्ययन किया। श्रद्धा राम फिल्लौरी जी का गुरुमुखी और हिन्दी साहित्य में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान रहा है। सन् 1868 में उन्होंने बाइबल का अनुवाद गुरुमुखी भाषा में किया था। उनकी गुरुमुखी रचना “सिखां दे राज दी विथिया” का प्रकाशन सन् 1866 में हुआ था तथा बाद में इस रचना का रोमन में अनुवाद भी हुआ। श्री श्रद्धा राम को भारत के प्रथम उपन्यासकार के रूप में भी जाना जाता है। उनके द्वारा लिखित प्रथम हिंदी ...

ॐ ॐ है एक मात्र मंत्र, यही है आत्मा का संगी:- ॐ को ओम लिखने की मजबूरी है अन्यथा तो यह ॐ ही है। अब आप ही सोचे इसे कैसे उच्चारित करें? ओम का यह चिन्ह 'ॐ' अद्भुत है। यह संपूर्ण ब्रह्मांड का प्रतीक है। बहुत-सी आकाश गंगाएँ इसी तरह फैली हुई है। ब्रह्म का अर्थ होता है विस्तार, फैलाव और फैलना। ओंकार ध्वनि के 100 से भी अधिक अर्थ दिए गए हैं। यह अनादि और अनंत तथा निर्वाण की अवस्था का प्रतीक है। आइंसटाइन भी यही कह कर गए हैं कि ब्राह्मांड फैल रहा है। आइंसटाइन से पूर्व भगवान महावीर ने कहा था। महावीर से पूर्व वेदों में इसका उल्लेख मिलता है। महावीर ने वेदों को पढ़कर नहीं कहा, उन्होंने तो ध्यान की अतल गहराइयों में उतर कर देखा तब कहा। ॐ को ओम कहा जाता है। उसमें भी बोलते वक्त 'ओ' पर ज्यादा जोर होता है। इसे प्रणव मंत्र भी कहते हैं। यही है √ मंत्र बाकी सभी × है। इस मंत्र का प्रारंभ है अंत नहीं। यह ब्रह्मांड की अनाहत ध्वनि है। अनाहत अर्थात किसी भी प्रकार की टकराहट या दो चीजों या हाथों के संयोग के उत्पन्न ध्वनि नहीं। इसे अनहद भी कहते हैं। संपूर्ण ब्रह्मांड में यह अनवरत जारी है। तपस...
