Rigorous Thinking

 You're a leader.

You're killer at execution.

You need your team to be the same.

Here’s a framework for building a culture of rigorous thinking:

As a manager, your ability to create impact depends on how well you manage OTHER people.

It doesn’t matter how smart you are--it matters how well your team performs.

Unfortunately, smart leaders can accidentally traumatize their team...

You say you want your direct reports to think independently.

But every time they have a question, you jump to answer it.

I get it.

When you have a million things going on it’s easier to dictate a solution.

So you have a dilemma:

You want your direct report to think like an owner.

You want them to bring you fresh ideas.

You want those ideas to be defensible.

You want a clear POV backed by solid evidence.

But right now they are doing anything but...

They bring you a laundry list of random ideas. The ideas are flimsy with logical gaps and obvious holes.

As a manager, you have two options to solve this problem:

🚫 Make all the decisions for them.

✅ Empower them to think rigorously.

Let’s talk about what I like to call rigorous thinking.

Rigorous thinking is asking critical questions about tactics and having a systematic way of making decisions.

Here’s how it works in practice:

Any idea goes.

But you have to be prepared to advocate for the idea and defend it.

You should be able to walk through the upside, downside, trade-offs, and second order effects.

Rigorous thinking is where flimsy ideas go to die.

It's the opposite of lazy thinking.

Lazy thinking is making assumptions you don't even realize are assumptions. Like assuming an idea will work w/o thinking about how to make it work.

It's a black box where "suddenly we succeed and have thousands of sign ups."

Let's compare:

🚫 Lazy thinking: "Hey boss, can we do [insert random tactic that competitors are doing]?"

👎 Result: Managers have to think through everything, which leads to decision fatigue.

In this world, you're always correcting your team’s mistakes and poor logic.

You have to think of polite ways to say "this isn’t a good idea" without discouraging your team.

If you always say no & your team doesn’t understand why, you look like the bad guy.

✅ Rigorous thinking: "Hey boss, I recommend we ___. It's worth the time, effort, and budget because ___. The downside is ___. But we can minimize risk with a small experiment by doing ___.”

👍 Result: Managers have less decision fatigue. Direct reports are empowered.

In this world, you are working collaboratively to pressure test assumptions.

You rarely say no to an idea.

It's not about saying yes or no.

It's about vetting the idea.

You ask probing questions.

Your direct report might realize their idea won't work in its current state.

But they're excited to go back to the drawing board, then show you their improved version.

They become sharper thinkers & take ownership.

You get better results.

A few questions you can ask to get started:

“What's the hard part?”

“What does success look like?”

“This is a great start. How do you see this working?”

“Why would someone be excited to do the thing you want them to do?”

“Who do we need buy-in from for this to move forward?”

It’s not an interrogation.

The way you ask matters.

Don’t sit back, kick your feet up, and wait to be impressed.

That wouldn’t bring out the best in you, and it won’t bring out the best in your team.

Ask hard questions with a curious and supportive posture.

When you take this approach as a manager, you empower your direct reports to figure out and articulate a solution.

You show that you're in the trenches with them and you believe in them.

Let’s get tactical:

The next time a team member approaches you with a problem, gently toss it back at them.

Give them a chance to practice thinking rigorously.

Instead of answering their question, ask:

“What do you think? I want to hear how you would fill in the blanks."

They may struggle at first. You may wonder if it's worth it.

But if you consistently do this, your employees will become sharper and more independent.

Invest the time to train your team--or burn a few hours every day to correct their work forever.

The choice is yours.

Training your team to think rigorously takes a load off your plate.

It’s an organizational force multiplier allowing everyone to produce higher quality work.

I hope you’ll give this a try. It's worked for many teams I’ve led and I'm curious to hear how it goes for you.

The PARADOXES

The most powerful paradoxes of life:

The Persuasion Paradox

Have you noticed that the most argumentative people rarely persuade anyone?

The most persuasive people don’t argue—they observe, listen, and ask questions.

Argue less, persuade more.

Persuasion is an art that requires a paintbrush, not a sledgehammer.

The Effort Paradox

You have to put in more effort to make something appear effortless.

Effortless, elegant performances are often the result of a large volume of effortful, gritty practice.

Small things become big things. Simple is not simple.

The Wisdom Paradox

“The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.” — Albert Einstein

The more you learn, the more you are exposed to the immense unknown.

This should be empowering, not frightening.

Embrace your own ignorance. Embrace lifelong learning.

The Growth Paradox

Growth takes a much longer time coming than you think, and then it happens much faster than you  ever would have thought.

Growth happens gradually, then suddenly.

When you realize this, you start to do things differently.

The Productivity Paradox

Work longer, get less done.

Parkinson's Law says that work expands to fill the time available for its completion.

When you establish fixed hours to your work, you find unproductive ways to fill it.

Work like a lion instead—sprint, rest, repeat.

The Speed Paradox

You have to slow down to speed up.

Slowing down gives you the time to be deliberate with your actions.

You can focus, gather energy, and deploy your resources more efficiently.

It allows you to focus on leverage and ROI, not effort.

Move slow to move fast.

The Money Paradox

You have to lose money in order to make money.

Every successful investor & builder has stories of the invaluable lessons learned from a terrible loss in their career.

Sometimes you have to pay to learn.

Put skin in the game. Scared money don't make money!

The News Paradox

The more news you consume, the less well-informed you are.

The noise bottleneck: More data leads to a higher noise-to-signal ratio, so you end up knowing less about what is actually going on.

Want to know more about the world? Turn off the news.

The Icarus Paradox

Icarus crafted wings—but flew too close to the sun, so they melted and he fell to his death.

What makes you successful can lead to your downfall.

An incumbent achieves success with one thing, but overconfidence blinds them to coming disruption.

Beware!

The Failure Paradox

You have to fail more to succeed more.

Our greatest moments of growth often stem directly from our greatest failures.

Don’t fear failure, just learn to fail smart and fast.

Getting punched in the face builds a strong jaw.

The Hamlet Paradox

"I must be cruel only to be kind." — Hamlet

In Hamlet, the protagonist is forced to take a seemingly cruel action in order to prevent a much larger harm.

Life is so complex.

The long-term righteous course may be the one that appears short-term anything but.

The Talking Paradox

“We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak.” — Epictetus

If you want your words and ideas to be heard, start by talking less and listening more.

You’ll find more power in your words.

Talk less to be heard more.

The Connectedness Paradox

More connectedness, less connected.

We're constantly connected, bombarded by notifications and dopamine hits.

But while we have more connectedness, we feel less connected.

Put down the phone. Look someone in the eye. Have a conversation. Breathe.

The Taleb Surgeon Paradox

Looking the part is sometimes the worst indicator of competency.

The one who doesn’t look the part has had to overcome much more to achieve its status than the one from central casting.

If forced to choose, choose the one that doesn’t look the part.

The Looking Paradox

You may have to stop looking in order to find what you are looking for.

Have you noticed that when you are looking for something, you rarely find it?

Stop looking—what you’re looking for may just find you.

Applies to love, business, investing, or life...

The Constant Change Paradox

“When you are finished changing, you are finished.” — Benjamin Franklin

The only constant in life is change.

Entropy is reality.

It’s the one thing you can always count on—the only constant.

Embrace it—be dynamic, be adaptable.

The Control Paradox

More controlling, less control.

We have all seen or experienced this as children, partners, or parents.

The most controlling often end up with the least control.

Humans are wired for independence—any attempts to counter this will be met with resistance.

The Fear Paradox

The thing we fear the most is often the thing we most need to do.

Fears—when avoided—become limiters on our growth and life.

Make a habit of getting closer to your fears.

Then take the leap (metaphorically!)—you may just find growth on the other side.

Those were powerful paradoxes of life...

The great Covid social burnout: Why are we so exhausted?

While post-socializing fatigue isn't a novel experience, it has been exacerbated during the pandemic and has affected both introverts and extroverts alike. New Statesman examines the cause of our collective social exhaustion.

The big picture: In 2018, a group of researchers in the Antarctic found that their emotional capacity had been significantly reduced in the duration of their stay there.

This was termed a “psychological hibernation” that caused them to feel dull and less lively. The pandemic has caused a similar situation.

Soon after COVID-led restrictions eased across the world, people attempted to jump right back into their pre-pandemic social routines.

Trying to make up for lost time resulted in a blur of events - at the end of which were sulkier moods, low motivation, poor emotional resilience, bad sleep and weight gain.

How it works: Experts explain that since our brain wasn’t stimulated by people or different experiences during the pandemic, it got used to being quieter and tuned itself to be more emotionally withdrawn.

Getting back to a robust social life was a shock to the system. The brain wasn't used to functioning at such a high speed, and tired more easily when subjected to higher levels of stimulus.

BBC notes that any new activity triggers the brain to lead to a spike in stress. Since staying inside had become the norm during the pandemic, thrusting ourselves into a new routine elevated our levels of stress.

Conversely, being locked down had also caused stress, triggering the fight or flight response within us.

However, since this system is meant to deal with immediate threats, contending with heightened levels of cortisol and adrenaline for over a year led to an eventual crash, per Timeout.

Do siblings ever stop hating each other?

Do siblings ever stop hating each other?

Although sibling rivalry is a natural part of childhood and can even be formative by teaching children how to handle conflict and interact better, sometimes it can carry into adulthood and lead to estranged relationships for life,

Reports BBC.

The big picture: Several studies indicate that up to 45% of adults have a rivalrous or distant relationship with a sibling,

Per The Wall Street Journal.

A UK poll found that most compete over things like their career (26%), being a homeowner (22%), who's the favourite child (20%) and other issues like holiday destinations, material gains, and parenting skills,

Per Brinkwire.

Between the lines: Since children are not equipped with the ability to determine what's upsetting them and haven't mastered controlling their emotions, they tend to fight a lot with their siblings.

Being competitive is human nature; siblings provide a natural point of comparison, experts say.

Since they've grown up with you in the same home in the same environment, comparing yourself to them feels fair.

This rivalry gets fiercer the more the age gap between the kids shrinks.

Due to this, some siblings try to violently differentiate themselves to reduce competition.

However, even more individualised identities can continue to cause conflict.

Moreover, since parents tend to grant more privileges to younger children, the older sibling can feel a desire for fairness, fueling conflict. In adulthood, this concern applies to professional success, marriages etc.

Yes, but: Over 15% of respondents to a survey said that competition over career goals motivated them to be more successful.

What's the one thing all successful Business people have in common?

Yes, they all work hard, they read books, etc.

But here is one thing no one talks about...

Had I learned this earlier...

I wouldn't have failed at 4 businesses. I'd experience way less stress.

I'd make way more progress and save years of time.

The one thing that all successful people have in common is they all have a mentor.

No matter what industry, no matter their net worth. Every successful entrepreneur had a mentor. And still have mentors.

Why? Let me explain...

The reason is actually very simple.

It took me 4 years and 4 failed businesses to learn that I cant do this on my own. I was tired of constantly starting from scratch. I couldn't spend another few years seeing no results. I knew I needed to change something...

So I started looking for a mentor.

I realized I need to find someone who already has the results I want and learn from them.

And a few weeks later...I came across a podcast from an entrepreneur who grew a company from 0 to 100M in a year. And he was also a man of Christian faith, just like me.

So immediately my next question was how can I meet this guy and learn from him...

i sent him over 43DMs on Instagram...

i tried everything to get in contact with him. And Finally after 2months, he responded to me.

He called me and we ended up having a 1-hour long conversation. And at the end, I asked him if he could mentor me... but at that time he just didn't have the time or any work for me. He did however introduce me to his best friend, also a very successful entrepreneur.

I ended up working for his company and got mentored by him.

and that changed everything for me...

I really started to understand how successful businesses operate. The mentorship I received was the foundation for my next business venture. 2 years later, I took what i learned from that mentorship and scaled my business to 7 figures.

7 NON-SEXUAL ADVICE I WISH I KNEW SOONER

Your mental health is more important than your career, money, other people's opinions, that event you said you would attend, your partner's mood, and your family's wishes, combined.

If taking care of yourself means letting someone down, then let someone down.

Love is a form of intimacy and you can't have intimacy without vulnerability.

If your past makes you avoid vulnerability, you will never have intimacy.

Avoiding vulnerability feels like self-defence but in the long term, it's self-harm.

99% of the harm is caused in your head by you and your thoughts.

1% of the harm is caused by reality what actually happens and the outcome

Most of the time, the problem isn't the problem. The way you think about the problem is.

You can fix most of your problems just by fixing your thoughts.

If you want to feed a problem, keep thinking about it.

If you want to starve a problem take action.

Problems feed off worry.

Action kills Anxiety.

Nobody is as successful as Instagram makes them look and nobody is as pretty as filters make them seem.

The only healthy, real and worthwhile comparison is you yesterday vs you today.

You will make real progress when you focus on that.

Don't attach yourself to a specific person, a place, a company, an organization or a project.

Attach yourself to a mission, a future and a set of values.

This is the best way to follow your heart and avoid getting attached to someone that isn't right for you.

Don't trust someone's words if their actions don't align.

Their words will tell you what they want you to think.

Their actions will tell you what they actually think.

7 SENTENCES I WISH I READ SOONER

 1. NO ONE IS GOING TO COME AND SAVE YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE PERFECTLY CAPABLE OF SAVING YOURSELF.

5 ways school is secretly trying to keep us poor

 1. School doesn't teach us about life. From 1st-12th, we spend 12960 hrs in school without learning:

Financial Literacy

Mental Health

Taxes

Time Management

Act of Kindness

2. School want us to be in Debt

A Broke 18year old can go  Rs.600,000/- into debt for college, but cant get a 25,000/-Loan to start a Business.

(Read that again)

3. School punishes us for failure

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

4. School teaches us to put our money in a saving account instead invest our money.

if you make 40,000/-/year and invest 25% of your annual income with @12% your savings could grow to roughly 90,00,000/- after 40 years

5. School teaches us to listen to our superiors.

Instead, its important to be wary where you get your advice.

You cant take advice from people who have failed at what you want to accomplish.

These 11 countries are banning certain baby names because parents can't be trusted

Well you can no longer name your kid "Linda" in Saudi Arabia. So there's that.

"Linda" is one of 50 names now banned in the country as of this month, according to Gulf News.

Other banned names include: Alice, Lauren, Malika (queen) and Jibreel (Gabriel). What do these names have in common?

The interior ministry finds them offensive in one of three ways:

Those that offend perceived religious sensibilities, those that are affiliated to royalty and those that are of non-Arabic or non-Islamic origin.

So long, Sandy of Saudi Arabia. It's been nice knowing you. Here's the full list of Saudi Arabia's banned names. And here are 10 more countries that find it necessary to call the shots when it comes to that fateful day:

1. New Zealand

The official list of rejected names in New Zealand includes "4Real," "Mafia No Fear" and "Anal." Other gems — like "." and "*" — didn't even bother with the alphabet. All of the names on the list were at some point proposed by parents, soon to be rejected by the government, which deemed the names too offensive.

2. Germany

In Germany, you must be able to tell the gender of the child by the first name. "Matti," for instance, was rejected. The name also must not be considered to have a negative impact on the child's well being. An office of vital statistics, called the Standesamt, decides whether or not a name is OK. They have nixed "Stompie," and "Woodstock" as well as last names like "Kohl." "Osama bin Laden"? Not so much.

3. Portugal

Portugal has an 80-page document outlining which names are acceptable and which aren't. For a long time, only biblical or Christian names were allowed. "Nirvana," "Olaf," and "Kennedy" didn't make the cut.

4. Denmark

Denmark has a list of 7,000 pre-approved names. "Anus," "Monkey," and "Pluto" are not on it.

5. Norway

Norway's strict naming law dates from the 1800s, and is intended to protect children from names that sound or look strange, according to the AP. Acceptable names include "Dits," "Fridvall," "Glisur," "Glasius," "Wrold," "Anond," "Raabi," and "Skagj." "Gesher," not so much. A woman actually wound up in jail for two days because she refused to change her child's name from "Gesher" to something else. "Gesher," which is Hebrew for "bridge," came to her in a dream, she said.

6. Sweden

Sweden has thwarted attempts by its citizens to name their kids "Superman," "Metallica," and the roll-off-your-tongue "Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116."

7. Morocco

In Morocco, there is a list of approved names that appropriately reflect "Moroccan identity." You can name a baby "Sara" (Arabic version) but not "Sarah," (Hebrew version).

8. Japan

In Japan, only official kanji may be used in babies' given names. The purpose is to make sure all names can be easily read and written by the Japanese. The Japanese also restrict names that might be deemed inappropriate. So there is no more "Akuma," meaning "devil," in case you were wondering.

9. Malaysia

Malaysia tightened up its naming law in 2006 in order to prevent such atrocities as "Hitler," "smelly dog," and "007." Malays can't name their kids "Woti," which means "sexual intercourse," nor can they name their kids after animals, insects, fruits, vegetables, or colors.

10. Iceland

In Iceland, baby names are supposed to fit Icelandic grammar and pronunciation rules — choices like Carolina and Christa are not allowed because the letter "c" is not part of Iceland's alphabet. In January 2013, a 15-year-old girl named "Blaer" won the right to keep her name, which she had been told by authorities wasn't feminine enough.

This article, by Emily Lodish, originally appeared at GlobalPost.

If you're a man and you're unhappy, you need to read this

Many men are depressed and feel useless, but for the need to retain their perceived Masculinity,  they keep these problems to themselves, because really, who can help? The truth is, not many people care about your problems.  Not many people can give you the answers that suit you.

I believe therapy doesn't work for men, because talking things out doesn't really solve much. Not for men at least. Men solve their problems through action. This is how it is, and it will always be.

This is why men lift weights or start businesses after an ended relationship. Men, if you feel broken or depressed, build something. Just talking about your problems makes you repulsive to people because truly,  everyone has problems.

Do you think people are willing to hear your new problems every week?

Women can do this,  but not you. On the rare occasions you do, share them when you're actively working to solve them. This way, people will respect you more.

And you don't become a burden to the next man

Women, this is what you should look for in a man

Women, this is what you should look for in a man

Trust is important.

Does he lie?

See how he treats his sisters and mum. This is how you’ll be treated later on.

Does he stick to his word?

If he doesn’t do what he says he will do, it says a lot about his integrity and loyalty.

Does he pray?

A man who doesn’t pray cannot lead properly. He needs to hear from God to be able to lead you right

Does he have a purpose?

He might not be so rich right now, but if he has a purpose that you can see him diligently pursuing, then support him.

If he’s all talk, but no action, you should rethink.

Is he responsible?

How well does he take care of his family, business, health, pet, or even his room.

His responsibility is what determines if he’ll be able to provide for you and your kids in the future.

Is he masculine?

Does he inspire you to submit? Do you feel safe around him?

A masculine man is to a feminine woman what a car is to a battery.

This polarity is what brings harmony to relationships

Are you teachable?

One thing men hate is being with a woman who is never ready to listen, learn or take correction.

As smart as you are, you must understand that you won’t always be right

Be his peace, and he’ll make you happy.

It’s not about finding the right man, it’s about being the right woman for the right man.

When dating outside marriage, maintain boundaries, because the more people you open your body to, the less value you have.

Keep yourself pure for the man you’ll marry.

Men will come, for different reasons

- Some for casual relationships

- Some with bogus claims that something told them you’re their wife

This is where you need God the most.

Bring these things to him and he’ll guide you.

Trying to pick a woman to marry?

Do you trust this woman with your life?

If you can’t tell her your secrets and trust that no matter what happens she'll stand by you, then she's not the one

Once you understand that marriage is forever, and there's no going back, you'll be more intentional about your selection

Don't marry for looks, they fade

Don't marry for how you feel today,  feelings change

Don't marry for her body, pregnancy changes that too

Don't marry for her potential, potential is nothing. Judge only from her daily habits.

Marry for her values

Marry for her judgment

Marry for her humor

Marry for her kindness

Marry for her femininity

Marry for her work ethic

Marry for her nurturing spirit

Marry for her habits

Marry for her ability to submit to you

Marry for her teachability

Marry for her ability to be prudent

Marry for her ability to support your goals

Marry for her ability to listen to you

Marry for her wisdom

Marry for her mental toughness

Marry for her positivity

For men, these are the things that make it easy to love her till you're 90

-This is the woman who will raise your kids.

- This is the woman your daughters will be like.

- This is the woman who will make your house into a home.

Don't marry her because you think you can change her. No one changes in marriage,  they only become more of who they are.

Most of all, work hard to improve yourself because you can only marry a high-quality woman if you're a high-quality man.

When you find a good woman, love her and she'll respect you.

When you find a good woman, be ready to provide and protect her. So she can be present in raising your kids.

When you find a good woman,  take your time to assess her. Don't be in a hurry, make sure she's not faking it.

Take a step back to pray about it. Clear your head, give her some space.

And when the only response you get after praying about her is peace, then that's your wife.

9 Psychology Lessons You’re NOT Taught In School

The Brain works in mysterious ways,

but a lot of these mysterious have been deboned by Psychology and Science.

𝟏. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐛𝐨 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 If we truly believe that we are going to experience something, our minds and bodies will follow so. This shows the power of how important it is to master your mind.

𝟐. 𝐁𝐚𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫-𝐌𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐡𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐧 (𝐁𝐌𝐏) Have you ever learned a new word and you started to see that word everywhere? This might be the BMP in action.

Our brains are built with a cognitive bias towards things that we recently learned. This new information receives priority over information that we’ve known for years. When you recognize it, your brain makes sure that you see it.

𝟑. 𝐀𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 When we first learn information, we tend to reflect back on that initial information, once we are faced with a similar situation.

𝟒. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝟖𝟎/𝟐𝟎 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 Also, known as Pareto Principle, is the easiest way to run pop your productivity. This principle states that 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes.

80% of the money that a business makes, will likely come from 20% of the most loyal, high-paying customers. 80% of the knowledge you retain, comes from only 20% of your study techniques.

𝟓. 𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 It says that we can manifest whatever we focus our thoughts on. If you focus your thoughts on making money, money-making opportunities will present themselves to you.

Your brain is overloaded with billions of things every day, and it has to choose what is important; So what it does is that it offloads the process of finding things to focus on.

𝟔. 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲-𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 (𝐒𝐀𝐏) SAP says it starts with us. We tend to be attracted to things that are similar to us. We might feel comfortable around people who look like us.

If we become a person that thinks positive things and hold a positive attitude, we will recognize and we’ll be drawn to other positive people and positive opportunities.

𝟕. 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 The people listening to us will start associating those traits with us.
If you tell a friend how your co-worker’s amazingly hardworking, your friend will start seeing you with that trait.
So, It’s a good excuse to quit gossiping.

𝟖. 𝐂𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 We all grow with an initial perspective. We hold on to these beliefs and attract people who enforce them. But what if we face a contradictory idea?

A situation in which we are faced with 2 perspectives opposing each other. Our brains start feeling very uncomfortable and it’s the kind of pain our brains want to avoid. Instead, it seeks something which brings pleasure. So, you’ll change either your belief or your behavior.

𝟗. 𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 It’s A psychological theory that explains why humans are more comfortable with things they are familiar with.

When you’re introduced to or you heard about something new, you might distance yourself. But once that period of exposure is over, you are more comfortable with the idea.

15 Powerful Thought of the book “The Art of Thinking Clearly”

The book was originally written as weekly columns in leading newspapers in Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland, and later in two German books.

The book has been in the top ten of Germany's Bestseller list for 80 weeks in a row and has been translated in many languages.

1. Never underestimate the hard work and lower probability of success, just because we are shown more successful people than many more actual failures.
It does not mean, in any way, that you should not dream big. It just says that dont get overawed by the number of success stories you read and assume that success would be easy. No one prints the failure stories.

2. Confirmation bias is the mother of all misconceptions. It is a tendency to interpret new information so that it becomes compatible with our existing theories.
Warren Buffet has seen people losing money with this because they ignore facts which contradict the theory in the mind of the investor. Dis-confirming evidence must be seeked out to beat this theory.

3. If you ever find yourself in a tight unanimous group, you must speak your mind, even if your team does not like it, and even if it means risking expulsion from the warm nest.
And if you lead a group, appoint someone as devil's advocate. He or she will not be the most popular member of the team, but definitely the most important.

4. Induction Send an email to 10,000 people with stock market prediction by dividing them into 2 groups - telling reverse prediction to each group. Prediction for one of the groups will come true.
Send a new prediction to the 5,000 whom you predicted correctly earlier - again after dividing them into 2 groups...carry on like this, and the last 100 would consider you as a genius. People get inducted into a decision based on history without thinking logically.

5. Loss Aversion The fear of losing something motivates people more than the prospect of gaining something of equal value.

6. Compounding When it comes to compounding, dont trust your intuition - you have no idea how powerful it is.

7. It is not what you say, but how you say, that's important. 99% Fat Free product seems more healthy than a product with 1% Fat.

8. If you are not a part of the solution, you are definitely a part of the problem. There is no 3rd category of passive onlookers.

9. Follow your passion even if you have to do away with part of your income for that

10. Whenever you are dealing with averages, be careful of the distribution behind it. A Bill Gates monthly income in a group of 50 ordinary citizens can give an extremely misleading average.

11. Money does not always motivate. It works as a motivation only in companies where employees work for only money.

12. Money won incidentally, as against earned through hard work, is more likely to be spent irrationally - though it sounds illogical because the money is the same. This can be prevented if you have a clear financial plan with you.

13. Self Control drains your energy Therefore you need a lot of energy if you want to exercise self control and excel in any specific area of life.

14. Presence of something is more noticeable and valued than its absence. As an example, presence of disease is much more noticeable than its absence. Even, getting off a plane and not noticing that it did not crash is so common.

15. It is appetizing, easy to digest - and highly destructive in the long run. Try and avoid it as much as you can.
