A VERY RARE PHOTO OF ELECTRIC TRAM IN KANPUR:
Trams were introduced in Kanpur (Cawnpore) in June 1907. The tram system opened in June 1907 and closed on May 16, 1933. There were 4 miles of track and 20 single-deck open trams. The single line connected the railway station with Sarsaya Ghat on the banks of the Ganges. Photographs of Cawnpore trams are very rare. The introductory stock was electric traction-type single-coach; single-coach trams were also used in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. There was one line – a four-mile stretch between the train station and Sirsaya Ghat, on the Ganges – and 20 open cars. Service was discontinued on 16 May 1933

30 jul 1987 During the ceremonial send off, he had to perform the usual inspection of the guard of honour at the airport. As he was doing so, a naval rating (sailor), who was part of the guard of honour contingent, reversed his rifle and tried to hit Rajiv on the head with it. Had he succeeded it may well have proved fatal. More than anything else it was Rajiv's own agility and quick reflexes that saved him. He darted to one side and at the same time the officer in charge of the guard of honour leapt at the man and pushed him aside, an act that caused the blow to lose some of its force. Nevertheless the rifle struck Rajiv a glancing blow on his shoulder. A split second later one of his Special Protection Group (that look after Indian VIP's security) men grabbed the rating and threw him to the ground

Notebook entries by Leonardo da Vinci, made during his life in Milan in 1506-1510, respectively. The manuscript consists of 18 sheets of paper covered on both sides and folded in such a way that together they formed a 72-page book. Leonardo notes written in a special way, his own "mirror" type - they can be read only by means of a mirror. Entries are devoted to various events, mused about the nature of which Leonardo: why the moon is shining, why and how the water flows in rivers, where are the fossils of which are minerals and so on. Notebook also contains a large number of mathematical calculations, diagrams and drawings. "Leicester" code was named after the Earl of Leicester, who bought the manuscript in 1717. In 1980, the book's heirs Lester bought the famous industrialist, collector and friend of the Soviet Armand Hammer, after which he served for a short period called the "Code Hammer» (Codex Hammer). After his death in 1994 the code was put up for auction, in which was acquired by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and he regularly exhibited in museums.

Maharani of Sikkim 1900
Photograph of the Maharani of Sikkim from the 'Wheeler Collection: Portraits of Indian Rulers,' was taken possibly by Johnston and Hoffmann c.1900. Stephen Wheeler, the donor of the collection, was presumably related to J. Talboys Wheeler, organiser of the 1877 durbar and author of 'The History of the Imperial Assemblage at Delhi' (London, [1877]). Full-length seated portrait of the Maharani of Sikkim, wife of Maharaja Thotab Namgue and stepmother of Maharaj Kumar Sidkyong Tulku. This photograph was possibly taken by John Claude White, c.1900 and marketed by Johnston & Hoffmann. The Maharaja of Sikkam's family originated from Lhasa in Tibet and settled in Sikkim in the mid 17th century. Puntso Namgye, the head of the family, was sent three Tibetan monks (professors of Myingmapa- the 'red cap' sect) to convert Lepchas of Sikkim to to their sect of Buddhism. The descendants of Puntso Namgye became the Raja's of Sikkim.

This photo was to be sent by speed post to Stalin, who wanted to show the world the power of the Red Army. Unfortunately, the Germans had not yet surrendered (Photo taken:01 May 1945, German Surrender:06 May, 1945) and the unarmed courier was hit by artillery. This photo was later found by the Americans and it now resides at the Berlin Museum.
This photo will really stir our patiotism. The Indian flag glown for the first time from the Red Fort. Taken from a very different angle, Prime Minister Nehru can also be seen at the bottom.

Rabindranath Tagore in Russia, 1930.
Probably the third Indian to be invited to the then newly found Communist State, Tagore was amazed and he wrote:
"Here is not like Europe. In all my travels I have never seen a European country so closely resembling my country yet miles away from it! The dirty roads, small houses, poor but happy people. But they have one thing that we don't - the power of brotherhood, which an ignorant Indian like myself am surprised to see".

H.H. The Nizam VI - Nawab Mir Mahboob Ali Khan, 1869-1911.
Nizam was a title given to the rulers of the state of Hyderabad in India. These rulers belonged to the Asaf Jah dynasty. Asaf Jah was a title assumed by Mir Qa...mar-ud-Din, a viceroy of the Deccan, under the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb who split from the crumbling Mughal Empire and in 1720 declared himself an independent state. His successors, henceforth were known by the title of Nizam.
In 1948 the independent state of Hyderabad was annexed by the newly independent India. A total of 7 nizams ruled Hyderabad and evidence of their rule can still be seen today in Hyderabad

In a never-published Vandivert photograph, LIFE war correspondent Percy Knauth (left) sifts through dirt and debris in the shallow trench in the garden of the Reich Chancellery where the bodies of Hitler and Eva Braun are believed to have been burned after their suicides.
With only candles to light their way, war correspondents examine a couch stained with blood (see dark patch on the arm of the sofa) located inside Hitler's bunker. In his typed notes Vandivert wrote: "Pix of [correspondents] looking at sofa where Hitler and Eva shot themselves. Note bloodstains on arm of soaf where Eva bled. She was seated at far end .... Hitler sat in middle and fell forward, did not bleed on sofa. This is in Hitler's sitting room.
