Knowledge from today's Ganapati Special Satsang.
Gan means samuha(group) and the one who is the head of all ganas is called the Ganapati.
Story of lord Ganesh's birth
Parvati while bathing takes out dirt from her body and makes a boy out of it and asks him to wait outside the washroom. Shivji comes to enter the house but the boy doesn't allow him to come inside. So shivji chops off his head.
Meaning of the story :
Parvati means peak of celebration. When celebration is at its peak the negativity(dirt) has to stay outside. Negativity comes from the head. Shiv chops down the head via his supreme awareness. 3rd eye of shiva symbolises awareness. He then replaces the head of the boy via elephant's head.
Significance of the body postures :
1. Head of the Ganapati Bappa is of elephant.
Elephant signifies fearlessness and intelligence.
2. Eyes are small signifies focus.
3. Trunk is the signifies flexibility.
4. One tooth signifies one principle governs the whole world. Also follow one school of thoughts. Don't do spiritual shopping. Respect everyone but follow one.
5. Big ears signifies the coordination between what we see and what we hear.
4 hands
1. First hand he is holding Ankush. Means I am in control of my own life.
2. Second hand he is holding Pash. We get caught up in so many attachments and entanglements from outer world. Pash in hand says I am not attached to material world. I am in control of it.
3. Third hand had Modak. Modak is happiness. He is spreading happiness.
4. Fourth hand is in abhay mudra. He says come to me. I will take all your worries.
Big belly signifies acceptance. But it is not passive acceptance. Snake is symbol of awareness which shows active acceptance.
Ganapati is god of enthusiasm. Muladhar sthitosi nityam. Resides at the base of the spine.
The mouse signifies question. How come the such a huge body sitting on small mouse. That question. That spirit of inquiry leads us to the path of knowledge.
It is very important to spread this knowledge.
Dancing is important. One who is stuck up in head can't dance. But along with that talking about values and knowledge is utmost important.
